…to my website. My name is Johannes N. Blumenberg, and I am  the head of the department Knowledge Exchange and Outreach (KEO; together with my colleague Agathe Gebert) as well as the head of GESIS Training at the GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences. I hold a doctorate in political science from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in addition to a Magister Artium in political science and sociology (Heidelberg University) and a BA in social sciences (Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg).

My research focusses on the supply and demand side of electoral behaviour. I am interested in what connects voters to political parties (linkage). During my doctorate, I developed the concept of Party Stereotypes. Aside I have published articles on candidates effects, länder elections in Germany, survey methodology, and tv-debates. Journals like German Politics, Zeitschrift für Parlamentsfragen, methods – data – analysis, as well as in several edited volumes, covered my research. Whenever I need it, I also develop software packages for Stata, which then become accessible to the public. The Manual Coding Interface is another byproduct of another project, which later was released for general use.

Furthermore, I am a member of the executive board of the International Association of the Study of German Politics (IASGP). Off-duty I am a member of various other political science associations like Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wahlforschung (DGfW), Deutsche Vereinigung für Politische Wissenschaft (DVPW), and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR).
